Movember – Rogues Gallery

We’re 15 days into MOvember and I wanted to update you on our progress so far.

At time of posting this message Team Achieve have so far raised over £1800.00

If you haven’t donated yet, please do.  By raising awareness of men’s health and making it a less taboo subject to talk about we can really make a difference to people’s lives.

I have just receive an email from an old client of Achieve sharing the story of her Dad’s victory against bowel cancer as a result of a conversation in the pub, here it is:

I lost my much loved Dad on 19th April this year. He survived Cancer 10 years ago, he was saved through a conversation with a friend at the local pub. They were sharing a pint when his friend told him that he had this bowel cancer and told Dad the symptoms, Dad said well that’s whats happening with me right now and the friend urged him to go straight to the GP, He went straight away and told the Doctor of the conversation and symptoms, The Doctor acted straight away and he was diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer in it’s earliest stage and was operated on within 2 weeks, saving his life. He was in remission and had yearly checks over the last 10 years.

This year he felt unwell at the beginning of the year and they diagnosed gall stone problems. He went in to Walsgrave Hospital for a simple laparoscopy and was told he would be out the same day but the Surgeon punctured his bowel 3 times and the lack of after care and incompetence of the weekend staff killed him. At least Dad got to meet his 3rd grandchild by surviving that extra 10 years thanks to his conversation with his friend.
