Coventry Half Marathon Route Released

The Coventry Half Marathon Route has been released today and looks interesting.

It is a total revamp from the last 3 or 4 years and takes in a start similar to the original route used in 2005, heading out of the city centre and up Radford Road.  It will be a tough first half (being an upward incline for most of it) and you will definitely benefit from including some hill training as part of your running fitness plan.  Following the strength training plan I provided last week will also improve the ability of your legs to cope with the hills; if you’re not sure about any aspect either email me or ask your own personal trainer.

The route then takes in some lovely countryside but also includes a mistake that was made in the original 2005 route, a 180° turn back on itself.

The good news is that the route is pretty much downhill for the last half, the dreaded Gibbet Hill / Kenilworth Road combo is also gone; as is the running back and forth across the War Memorial Park.

Another added benefit is the long finishing straight down Corporation Street / Hales Street for spectators and family to cheer and encourage you as you cross the line.

Here’s a rough version of the route on
